And V Day bus (stop) luh:
Awww…
Another gem from Vanessa N.:
For all of you (non-545 riders) who don’t get the joke, check this Wikipedia article.
Spotted on Broadway, somewhere between John and Republican:
Obviously, it’s been a minute since I’ve walked Broadway; the young bus chick running the place said the sign’s been up for a couple of months.
A (15%) Metro discount and a walk-up window? If only I drank coffee. Or bubble tea.
The obstacle course that is our weekly walk to Good Shepherd:
Past offenses (at least those I documented) have involved cars, but it doesn’t take much to block a sidewalk this narrow. Even the light pole is an obstacle. And could someone (please!) trim those bushes back?
Bus Nerd and I have recently returned from a lovely evening out. (That’s two nights out in one week–a record since the arrival of Chicklet.) This time, we attended the opening-night performance of The Color Purple (27 + medium walk) and–thanks to my friend Kelley–a post-show reception with the cast.
Turns out, we weren’t the only bus types at the fancy party.
No disrespect to Northwest Center (an organization that makes it easy for car-free types to donate clothing and household items), but maybe the proceeds from the sale of this particular nutcracker should go to Metro.
And finally, after a mere year and a half of wallowing in litter, southbound 48 passengers waiting at 23rd & Union once again have a place to put their trash.
Earlier today, our bus fam headed over to Volunteer Park to raise our voices in support of other families’ rights. (We were not down with the three-bus trip–48 + 43 + 10–to a park two miles from our house and so took the 48 north and made the rest of the trip on foot.) At the rally, we saw many folks who had been on the 48 with us and recognized many of our favorite bus regulars. (You know you’re a bus chick if…, item #21: “When you’re at a big gathering [sporting event, festival, concert, fair] you see several people you remember from the bus.”)
I have to say, all the clever, 8-themed signs had me wishing (yet again) that my third-favorite route, which would have gotten us within spitting distance of the park, ran on weekends. But I digress.
For Chicklet-related reasons, we left the festivities early. We weren’t the only ones.
Bus Nerd spotted this bus shelter being towed right past our kitchen window:
I assume it’s off to be cleaned, etc. (hope they left a note this time), but I liked the metaphor. And speaking of…
I’ve spent the last week celebrating a couple of major milestones: the results of the election (buses and stations and trains–oh my!) and Chicklet’s birthday (Nerd’s dad and my Gail were in town to celebrate with my Seattle fam). After seven full days of basking, I’m back and ready to return to my regularly scheduled programming.
